Before using Word to create your new document, plan your design. Make the following decisions:

  • Will you use portrait or landscape page orientation?

  • Will you use two-page layout or one-page layout?

  • Will you use standard-sized paper or other paper?

  • Will you use standard text, columns, tables, or text boxes?

  • If you choose columns, will it be a 2-column grid with equal-width columns? a 2-column grid with uneven columns? a 3-column grid? other?

  • Will you use graphics captions?

  • Will you number pages?

  • Will your document be bound?

Create a paper design (storyboard) of your document if there are multiple graphic elements.
