"Finishing touches" means to check your document for minor errors. An error-free document will meets its purpose without detracting from the message. Here is a list of common errors and omissions on desktop publishing documents. Check carefully for the following:

  • No graphic accents to divide columns or articles.

  • No continuation marks where needed.

  • Text boxes with cut-off text.

  • Custom fonts that will not be able to be printed on another machine.

  • Spelling and/or grammar errors.

  • Headers and footers that don't change from section to section.

  • Poor alignment of text and graphics.

  • Table of contents and index not comprehensive. No headings.

  • Linked files not available or not updated before printing.

  • Font colors or sizes unreadable. Graphics do no have sufficient contrast.

  • Insufficient white space.

Depending on the project's distribution, you may need to acquire copyright permissions for text and/or graphics used.
