Remember that the primary goal when creating any desktop publishing project is to communicate a message effectively and clearly. To do this, you must know the document's

  • purpose

  • intended audience

  • intended effect (persuasive, informational, etc.)

  • how it will be reproduced

Use a grid to lay out each page (Drawing Toolbar > Draw > Grid).

Use Print Layout view when using Microsoft Word to do desktop publishing.

Balance the text (information) and graphics (visual appeal). Include sufficient white space.

Understand Word's layering features for background, text, and graphics.
